When the first VoIP services were out there available for everybody, they were a bit exaggerated in price and quality. We experienced the so called ‘calling cards’ using the same services afterwards, but they weren’t always up and running, although a lot companies made a fortune with our patience.

Peer-to-peer calls
Looking through the future some years ago, people realized that the VoIP had the potential to change the phone business although it didn’t happen, because it never went free. Skype was the free service that everybody started using to call overseas and the more people using it the better the communication was. There was a competition between Skype and MSN and all the others trying to play the game of ‘free’ p2p calls, but they never made it free for landlines. Now as we see Skype started a bit to offer the free calls service, but of course there is a subscription which is not for free and the free calls are not to every country.

There were all these phones made (in China) to fulfill the needs of the normal customers that were not very familiar of using the PC/Mac software, which were allowing people to also make landline calls after charging their account with 10 EUR in the past and 5 EUR nowadays. These phones were nice and I believe people are still using them, but the point is: Do you think that this service is much cheaper than what the normal landline phone offers? Even if it is, the question is still: When is it going to be for free?
